Three Nigerian athletes—Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Oluchi Ochonogor—failed to secure a podium finish in the Women's Long Jump final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite high expectations and strong performances leading up to the final, none of the trio could achieve the necessary marks to win a medal.
Team Nigeria's hopes were high as pundits had predicted at least one of the three might secure a medal. However, the event on Thursday at the Stade de France did not bring the desired outcome. Brume, who had previously won bronze in Tokyo, placed fifth with a jump of 6.70 meters. Usoro finished tenth with a jump of 6.58 meters, while Ochonogor was 12th with a jump of 6.24 meters.
In contrast, the gold medal was claimed by Tara Davis-Woodhall of the U.S., who recorded a jump of 7.10 meters. Germany's Malaika Mihambo took silver with a jump of 6.98 meters, and Jasmine Moore from the U.S. won bronze with a jump of 6.96 meters.
