Organizers cancel 2024 National Anti-Corruption Marathon

The organizers of the 2024 National Anti-Corruption Marathon Race have disclosed that the earlier suspended 2024 edition will no longer take place.  


The National Coordinator of the race, Jacob Onu, announced the final cancellation in Abuja.

“The general public is hereby notified that the 2024 National Anti-Corruption Marathon Race, scheduled for December 21, will no longer hold.  


“We, the Main Organising Committee (MOC), in conjunction with our partners, look forward to the 2025 edition.  


“For any inconvenience caused, kindly bear with us,” Onu said.  


Over 3,000 athletes had expressed their intention to participate in this year’s marathon, with one million naira as the star prize for both male and female categories, while the runners-up were set to receive N700,000 and N500,000, respectively.  


The National Anti-Corruption Marathon is one of the road-running events in Nigeria whose course has been certified and accredited by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).  


The 21.5 km half marathon, now in its 5th edition, was initially scheduled for December 5 but was later moved to December 21 before being finally canceled.  


The marathon began in 2018 and did not hold in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  


Adamu Muazu Shehu and Rose Akusho from Plateau State were the winners in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, in the last edition of the race held in Abuja.
