Keely Hodgkinson, the British athlete and Olympic/world silver medallist, is eager to make a strong start to her outdoor season at the Paris Diamond League.
She will compete in the 800m race at Charlety Stadium on Friday, marking the beginning of her preparations for the World Championships, which are set to commence in 10 weeks.
Having comfortably defended her European indoor title in March, Hodgkinson had an impressive winter season. Although she started her outdoor season slightly later than usual, it was a deliberate decision to ensure she is fully prepared for competition.
Expressing her readiness, Hodgkinson stated, "I'm feeling good, training has been going really well. I'm ready to kick off the season and start it with a bang."
During the indoor season, the 21-year-old set a new British 800m record and even established a world record in the women's 600m event. However, Hodgkinson remains focused on her upcoming challenge in Budapest, where she aims to upgrade her world silver medal from last summer's competition, where she finished just eight hundredths of a second behind American athlete Athing Mu.
Reflecting on her achievements, Hodgkinson remarked, "I forget [about the 600m world record] even happened this year, it feels so long ago. But it was a great marker to set. I feel like this year I've worked even harder than last year. We're training harder, and hopefully, when the time comes and I'm in peak form near the end of the summer, something special can happen. Until then, I'll keep working."
With a personal best of one minute 55.88 seconds, Hodgkinson enters the Paris Diamond League as the second-fastest athlete in the field, trailing behind American competitor Ajee Wilson (1:55.61).
