Team Nigeria’s Favour Ofili advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 200 metres event at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Sunday, overcoming the disappointment of her disqualification in the 100 meters race.
Running in lane 2 of heat 6 during the first round at the Stade de France, Ofili clocked a season-best 22.24 seconds to win her heat.

She finished ahead of Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who crossed the line in 22.28 seconds, securing second place in that heat.
With this performance, Ofili has qualified for the semi-finals scheduled for Monday evening.
She is among the 18 athletes who advanced to the next round, being one of the top three finishers in each of the six heats.
“It was tough to win, but I did it, and I am proud of myself,” Ofili said.
The 21-year-old, who won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, noted that the semi-finals would be a different challenge.
“It is going to be tougher, but I will do my best to reach the final,” she promised.
