Fatodu stated that the commission has successfully engaged the youth, providing them with an avenue to express their talents.

Expressing the state's readiness for the National Youth Games, Fatodu praised the committed support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in ensuring that the state excels in Asaba.

He also acknowledged the state’s substantial investment in the team’s welfare and preparations, noting that the LSSC has meticulously selected the athletes representing the state.

The Lagos volleyball team (boys) defeated the host Osun 2-0 (21-7, 21-5), while the female football team overcame Oyo 3-1.

Two goals from Muhammed Habeeb in the boys' football game were crucial for the Lagos team, securing a 2-1 win despite a consolation goal from Ekiti.

In the hockey event, the Lagos female team beat Osun 3-0, giving them an edge for their next encounter.

Meanwhile, the Lagos female volleyball team won against Osun 2-0 (25-16, 25-10), and the Lagos handball girls defeated Oyo 9-5, showcasing their dominance in the ongoing qualifications.

The highly competitive zonal elimination has been dominated by Team Lagos, and the athletes are motivated to deliver on the final day of competition on Saturday.

Prof. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a board member of the LSSC, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to maintaining its leading role in sports development.

He stated that the National Youth Games would serve as a platform to showcase emerging talents.

Fatai-Abatan emphasized the state’s dominance in the zonal elimination and the need to translate these results into a successful performance at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Team Lagos is represented by 188 athletes at the South-West Zonal Elimination in Osogbo, competing for slots in eight teams including Football, Basketball, Cricket, Handball, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Hockey, and Abula.
