The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Yussuf Alli, has directed that all athletes and coaches of the teams that qualified for the forthcoming National Youth Games 'Asaba 2024' be moved to camp immediately, ahead of the games scheduled to begin on Sept. 9.
The Edo Sports Commission boss gave the directive at the end of the zonal elimination games hosted by Edo State.
Alli expressed his satisfaction with the overall performance of Team Edo, who qualified in six out of the nine sports in the elimination games in Benin.
He urged everyone responsible for preparing the young athletes to do everything necessary to keep them in top shape, promising that the Edo Sports Commission would make all necessary resources available.
Out of the nine sports featured in the zonal elimination, Team Edo qualified in six and lost only three.
Team Edo will be missing out on Basketball, Abula, and Volleyball at the Asaba Games.
However, Team Edo excelled and qualified in Football (Male), Rugby (Male and Female), Beach Volleyball, Handball (Female), Hockey (Female), and Cricket (Male and Female).
The Edo football team defeated Team Bayelsa 3-1 on Friday evening at the Western Boys Mini Stadium, securing the only ticket to the Asaba 2024 Games.
