Oyo Okonkwo, the coach of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says he is optimistic about winning two gold medals in their final matches of the ongoing Comptroller General of Customs Military and Paramilitary Wrestling Championship.
In an interview, the coach stated that the team was determined to win two gold medals in their final games.
The championship is organized by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation in collaboration with the Chief of Defence Staff and the Nigeria Customs Service.
NSCDC won their first gold in the Greco-Roman category on Tuesday.
He mentioned that the team was determined to be among the top three teams in the championship.
“We came with six male players to contest in this championship, and we won our first gold on Tuesday in the Greco-Roman category.
“My players won two of the semifinal matches today in the freestyle category, and they will win the final match on Thursday.
“The boys are determined to win their final matches, and we hope to be among the top three agencies at the end of this competition,” he said.
The coach commended the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for sponsoring the maiden edition of the championship.
“We thank him for the great job. We are all happy as wrestlers that he promised to make the championship an annual event.
“We want frequent competitions to keep the boys fit,” he added.
The championship, which started on October 19, will end on Thursday at the Package B indoor hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
