Amusan, Ofili, Brume, missing as WA list Nigerian representatives to 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championship

Posted : 18 March 2025

There were notable omissions as World Athletics on Tuesday released the names of athletes who will represent Nigeria at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championship.

The notable absentees include World Record holder in the 100m hurdles and Nigeria's queen of the track, Oluwatobiloba Amusan, fellow track star Favour Ofili, and long jumper Ese Brume.

Although no reason was provided for their omission, other athletes, including shot putter and African record holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, along with ten other Nigerian athletes, made the list and will represent Nigeria at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championship in Nanjing, China, from March 21 to 23.

According to the final entry list released by World Athletics, the Nigerian contingent includes Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, 400m runner Chidi Okezie, and NCAA women’s indoor high jump champion Temitope Adeshina.

Other athletes on the list include African indoor 400m record holder Ezekiel Nathaniel, Paris Olympic finalist Prestina Ochonogor, and Edidiong Udo, James Onwuka, Ifeanyi Ojeli, and Joshua Caleb.

The athletes will compete in five events: high jump, long jump, 400m, shot put, and the men’s 4x400m relay.

A total of 576 athletes from 127 countries will participate in the three-day event. Among them are 11 individual defending champions and 20 Paris 2024 Olympic medalists, making for a highly competitive field, according to World Athletics.
