He made this known while addressing journalists on the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s preparations for the event, scheduled from November 18 to November 30, 2024, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
According to General Musa, the sporting event provides a unique opportunity for Nigeria’s armed forces to showcase their skills, foster camaraderie among participants, and strengthen military cooperation across the continent.
“The hosting of the African Military Games in Abuja is a testament to Nigeria’s dedication to regional peace and security. It also allows us to demonstrate our capabilities as a host nation.
“This platform enables our armed forces to compete at an international level, exchange best practices with counterparts from other African countries, and build lasting relationships that will enhance the continent's overall security and stability,” he stated.
General Musa noted that preparations for the games, including infrastructure and logistics, have been finalized to ensure a seamless event.
He expressed confidence that the Nigerian armed forces would excel, making the nation proud both on and off the field.
He emphasized the broader benefits of hosting the games, including economic and sports development, global recognition, and fostering national pride, urging Nigerians to support the event.
General Musa also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support of the armed forces in achieving such milestones.
“We assure you of our commitment and readiness to deliver a historic event. However, we need your support.
“We encourage Nigerians to come out and support the teams, showcasing the hospitality for which our nation is renowned.
“I urge citizens and friends to participate actively and show their support for the armed forces as they compete in the African Military Games. Let us, as a nation, celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and unity embodied in this event,” he said.
Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abidemi Marquis, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, revealed that 25 countries are expected at the competition, with eight already in attendance.
AVM Marquis, who also serves as Director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters, noted that this second edition, hosted by Nigeria, will be the most attended African Military Games to date.
