Nigeria para powerlifters begin training tour in Germany for 2024 Paralympics

Posted : 17 August 2024

The President of the Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation, Chiemeka Ezenwanne, announced on Friday that the team has commenced their international training tour in Germany.

Ezenwanne revealed that six female powerlifters, two male powerlifters, and two coaches departed the country on August 13th for Germany.

He stated that the para powerlifters are determined to erase the shame witnessed by Nigerians at the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ezenwanne assured Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh, that the para-athletes will secure gold medals for the country when the Paralympics commence.

He said, "After two months of intensive camping sponsored by the Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation, I am happy to announce that the lifters have started their international training tour in Germany.

"The para powerlifters are motivated and in top form to make the country proud.

"The lifters understand the stakes and are aware that the nation is disappointed with Team Nigeria's performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

"Our mission at the Paris 2024 Paralympics is to restore the pride of Nigerians by winning gold medals.

"The Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh, has been in touch with the para powerlifters since we began our local camping.

"We were with the Sports Minister at the Federal House of Representatives when they donated 100 million naira to support the Olympic dream. The lifters are determined to repay the minister with an excellent result."

Ezenwanne urged Nigerians to pray for the Paralympians as they prepare for the challenges ahead.

He said, "We have done our part by preparing rigorously for the games. All the para-athletes ask is for the nation to keep them in their prayers for spiritual guidance."
