NGO mobilises over 1700 for 2023 Lagos Women Run

Posted : 10 November 2023
A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Women Development Initiative (WDI), promised to mobilize over 1,700 participants for the 2023 Lagos Women Run. The Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of WDI, Mrs. Bisola Aloba, made this pledge in an exclusive interview while providing updates on the preparations for a successful marathon aimed at empowering more women.

As part of the activities for the 2023 women's 10km marathon, the NGO, WDI, organized empowerment training in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), vocational training in fashion designing, Adire, makeup, and more for the runners. These training and exhibitions are ongoing at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, open ground.

Aloba explained that the NGO decided to support the women's run because of its ambitious vision and ideas for empowering women, which align with the core values of the organization.

"We decided to get involved with the Lagos Women Run because we resonate with their purpose and vision. It's not just a marathon; it's a means of empowering women. The Lagos Women Run is also about networking, which is the driving passion of our organization. That's why we are spearheading the vocational training for the participants of the women's run," she said.

Aloba added that empowering women would significantly contribute to addressing the growing unemployment rate in the country.

Additionally, Mrs. Sidikat Folami, the Strategist for WDI, mentioned that the NGO had already mobilized more than 1,700 women to participate in the Saturday run.

"The program offers numerous benefits for women, including networking, training, and health benefits, among others. We are fully prepared to participate in the 2023 edition, which we believe will be rewarding," she said.

The 2023 Lagos Women Run is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 11, at 7 a.m. at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), concluding at Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Lagos Island.
