NBF president, Orbih, unveils plan for badminton in 2025

Posted : 04 January 2025

The President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, has revealed exciting plans to organize national badminton tournaments in 2025.

Orbih stated that the focus of the current board is the continuous development of the sport in Nigeria and providing athletes with more competitive opportunities.

“In 2025, we will introduce more national tournaments for Nigerian badminton players. These tournaments will create additional competitive platforms for our athletes, allowing them to enhance their skills and prepare for international competitions.

"The aim is to build a stronger, more dynamic badminton community in Nigeria.”

Orbih also reflected on the ongoing success of Nigerian badminton, particularly highlighting the impressive achievements of para-badminton athlete Eniola Bolaji.

Bolaji’s performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where she won a bronze medal, has been hailed as a monumental accomplishment for both Nigeria and Africa.

“Eniola’s bronze medal in Paris is a remarkable achievement. It is a proud moment for Nigeria and the entire African continent. Her success is a testament to the talent and hard work of our athletes.”

Orbih emphasized Nigeria’s continued dominance in African badminton.

“Our players are excelling in their respective categories across Africa. We are on the right path, and with the organization of more national tournaments, we will continue to strengthen the foundation of badminton in the country.”

Looking ahead, Orbih outlined a key goal for Nigerian badminton.

“One of our main objectives is to qualify more players for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. We are focused on developing our athletes and providing them with the tools they need to compete on the world stage. The upcoming tournaments will play a vital role in helping us achieve this goal.”

Orbih concluded by reiterating his commitment to the growth of Nigerian badminton.

“The journey has just begun. We will continue to invest in our players, and through the planned tournaments, we are confident that Nigerian badminton will continue to grow and compete at the highest levels.”
