Samuel Ekeoma, the National Coordinator of Para Badminton in Nigeria, says his team's target is to win gold medals at the upcoming Olympics in Paris, France.
Recall that two Para Badminton athletes, Chigozie Jeremiah and Eniola Bolaji, will be representing the country at the upcoming Olympics.
Ekeoma, in an interview, expressed joy for the athletes qualifying and representing Nigeria at the Olympics after several attempts over the years.
"Actually, we are targeting gold medals at the tournament because we have prepared adequately to perform well at the Olympics.
"We have quality players; in the last world championship, our player defeated the world number one, but due to a technical error, she was disqualified.
"But now we are ready and prepared to win more gold medals for the country.
Jeremiah will be participating in the men's categories, while Bolaji will be participating in the women's category," he said.
"Both of them will undergo international training in Spain to keep them fit and prepare them perfectly for the tournament," he added.
The coordinator also appealed to the government and private organizations for sponsorship.
Ekeoma said that funding was one of the challenges facing Para Badminton in the country, urging individuals and governments at all levels to come to their aid.
Jeremiah will represent Nigeria in the men’s singles standing lower four (SL4) at the global event.
Bolaji, Nigeria’s sensational Para Badminton player, made history by winning three gold medals at the just concluded first Egypt TV Para Badminton International tournament held in Cairo.
