Marcel Hug and Madison de Rozario win wheelchair races at London Marathon 2023

Posted : 24 April 2023
Marcel Hug of Switzerland shaved 50 seconds off his personal best to capture his sixth overall and third consecutive London Marathon victory.

Hug, 37, finished in one hour, 23 minutes, and 48 seconds, finishing far ahead of Jetze Plat of the Netherlands in second place.
David Weir, a 43-year-old Briton, finished sixth in his 24th London Marathon.

In a sprint finish, Australian Madison de Rozario defeated Swiss Manuela Schar to win the women's wheelchair race for the second time.
Just six days after winning the Boston Marathon, Hug achieved success.

"I have got a new chair and I was involved in developing it, but it took a long time to get it right and to adapt," he said.
"The weather conditions were difficult for us all but the crowd the whole way round gave me so much energy.

"When I broke away from the group it was just about trying to go as fast as I could. It all went perfectly for me."

Before De Rozario and Schar separated themselves, the four women's favorites arrived on the Mall together.

De Rozario triumphed in 1:38:52, ahead of Susannah Scaroni of the United States in fourth and reigning champion Catherine Debrunner of Switzerland in third.

The first British person to finish was 21-year-old Eden Rainbow-Cooper, who finished third in 2022.
