The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U19 World Championships resumed today with an exciting Men's Individual Qualification round in Druskininkai, Lithuania. A total of 62 talented young pentathletes from around the world competed for coveted spots in Saturday’s Men's Final. As was the case with the female athletes the previous day, numerous world records fell as competitors pushed themselves to secure their places in the final showdown.
The competition demonstrated its global reach, particularly in Qualification Group A, where the top four qualifiers hailed from different nations across four continental confederations. Minjun Heo from Korea and Sief Soliman from Egypt both finished with a score of 1,500 points, while Oleg Rybak from Ukraine and David Garcia from Mexico followed closely behind. In total, 13 countries were represented among the first 18 finalists, showcasing the diversity of talent in the sport.
For the host nation, the standout performance came from Lukas Lagunavicius in Group B. Fresh off setting a new U17 world record for the Obstacle event just two weeks prior, Lagunavicius set a remarkable U19 record today with a time of 00:23.02, thrilling the home crowd. This outstanding performance ensured his progression to the final, highlighting his potential as a rising star in the sport.
Completing the top of Group B, Taegyung Lim from Korea emerged as the leader with a score of 1,492 points, finishing 10 points ahead of Kazakhstan’s Danil Bogdanov, who placed second. Franciszek Dubrawski from Poland rounded out the top three, marking another strong showing for his country in this prestigious event. The anticipation builds for the final as these young athletes continue to impress on the world stage.
