Blanka Vas of SD Worx delivered an impressive performance on Stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia Donne, securing a significant victory in the absence of Lorena Wiebes.
Despite a frustrating day for Marianne Vos, who couldn't maintain her sprint lead in the uphill finale, Annemiek van Vleuten managed to maintain her 3'56" lead in the general classification.
Vas, a talented 21-year-old rider, triumphed in the sprint finish, comfortably holding off Chloe Dygert of Canyon-SRAM and Liane Lippert of Movistar. Vos, on the other hand, expressed disappointment as she faded during the final stretch of the stage.
As the Giro d'Italia Donne approaches its final stage, which includes two Category 3 climbs, Van Vleuten is poised to secure her fourth title. The experienced Dutch cyclist, who will retire at the end of the season, maintains a 3'56" advantage over Juliette Labous of Team DSM-Firmenich in the general classification, with Gaia Realini of Lidl-Trek sitting in third place at 4'23".
