Letsile Tebogo, fresh from celebrating his historic Olympic 200m gold in Botswana, is now setting his sights on further sprint successes. The 21-year-old achieved a remarkable African record of 19.46 seconds in Paris, placing him fifth on the all-time list and making him the first African to win the Olympic 200 meters.
Tebogo was greeted with overwhelming enthusiasm upon his return to Gaborone, where President Mokgweetsi Masisi declared an impromptu half-day holiday to honor the sprinter and other Olympic athletes. The celebrations saw tens of thousands of people fill the national stadium, with Masisi praising Tebogo for making history not just for Botswana but for all of Africa.
Now back in Europe, Tebogo will face off against American sprinter Fred Kerley in the 200m at Thursday's Diamond League meeting in Lausanne. Despite the excitement of his return home, Tebogo remains focused on continuing his sprint career and aiming for more medals.
