On Sunday at the UK Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Laura Muir clinched the gold medal in the 3,000m event with an impressive time of eight minutes 58.80 seconds. This victory secured her spot at the World Indoor Championships to be held in Glasgow.
Joining Muir in Glasgow will be Jemma Reekie, who secured her place in the World Indoor Championships with a victory in the 800m final, clocking in at 1:58.24. Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the double world heptathlon champion, finished ninth in the shot put final despite achieving an indoor personal best of 13.29m, opting not to compete in Glasgow as part of her preparation for the upcoming Olympics.
Expressing disappointment at not participating in the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Johnson-Thompson stated her decision was to focus entirely on the Olympics in Paris this summer. Amelia Campbell claimed the gold in the shot put, achieving a distance of 17.74m in her third throw. Laura Muir, an Olympic silver medallist, has her sights set on Paris but expressed her eagerness to compete in Glasgow.
Reekie, setting a championship record in the 800m, comfortably secured her place in Glasgow, with Isabelle Boffey finishing second and Erin Wallace in third. The women's 400m final witnessed a family affair as the Nielsen twins, Laviai and Lina, claimed the top two spots, with Laviai securing gold in 51.54 seconds and Lina achieving an indoor personal best of 51.95. Additionally, Morgan Lake clinched the gold in the women's high jump by clearing 1.85m.
