Olympic 100m champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs showcased his form ahead of the Paris Games by breaking the 10-second barrier twice on Tuesday to claim gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland. Jacobs, known for his Tokyo triumph with a 9.80s finish and subsequent relay gold, clocked 9.99s in the heats before accelerating to victory in the final with a time of 9.92s.
This performance marked a significant improvement for the 29-year-old Italian, who had previously only gone under 10 seconds once since his 2021 Tokyo Games success. Jacobs expressed relief and satisfaction, stating, "Before today, I was concerned about not breaking the 10-second mark this season, but now I've achieved it twice. In the heats, my start was strong but the finish was average. In the final, it was the opposite, so now I need to synchronize everything."
Jacobs' 9.92s in the final ranks as the third-fastest time of his career. The current season's best remains 9.79s, achieved by Ferdinand Omanyala during Kenya's Olympic trials. With the athletics events scheduled from August 1-11 at the Stade de France, Jacobs aims to fine-tune his performance further ahead of the Paris Olympics.
