The third Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST) is scheduled to take place in June. The initiator, Emmanuel Egbele, said this in an interview in Lagos. He said the championship would serve as preparatory ground for players representing the country at the World English Language Speaking Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC) scheduled for July.
“We are thrilled that the EEAST is getting to the third level, which we named the "Trilogy."
The Trilogy is the third instalment of the Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST) and is expected to incorporate a lot of activities during the tournament.
“What we should expect is a high-tempo tournament similar to what was witnessed last year and more."
"Being a top-rated event on the National Sports Festival (NSF) calendar, we expect top players to jostle for prizes and ultimately for the trophy and to be adorned in our red jacket,” he said. According to Egbele, EEAST is a celebration of scrabble in Nigeria.
“The encouraging and positive reviews from the "Sophomore" edition show that we are moving in an ascending direction,” he said.
Top players, including continental, national, and regional champions, as well as other strong players across categories, will clash with one another at the two-day tournament from June 2 to 3. EEAST has become a veritable arena for exciting competition among the players.
Last year, the "Sophomore" edition attained new prestige as a specially crafted green jacket was created and presented to the overall winner, Enoch Nwali, at a well-attended gala night at the Eko Hotel. Nwali would go ahead to claim the 14th African Scrabble Championship (ASC) title.
