Kipkorir from Kenya gets provisional suspension due to doping

Posted : 25 February 2025

Kenyan marathoner Brimin Kipkorir has been temporarily banned following a positive test for banned substances, according to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

Kipkorir, known for his impressive performances, set a course record at the 2024 Sydney Marathon with a time of 2:06:18 and previously claimed victory at the Frankfurt Marathon in both 2022 and 2023.

The AIU announced that Kipkorir tested positive for EPO and Furosemide, substances prohibited under anti-doping regulations.

His sample was collected outside of competition on November 22, 2024, adding to concerns about doping in long-distance running.

The issue of doping has plagued marathon running, with multiple high-profile cases emerging in recent years, especially from Kenya.

Kenyan athletes have been under intense scrutiny, with past instances including Diana Kipyokei, who lost her 2021 Boston Marathon title due to doping and was subsequently banned for six years.

Kipkorir’s case underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining the integrity of the sport, as authorities continue efforts to combat doping violations.
