Katie Archibald aims for three gold medals at Paris 2024 Olympics, targeting team pursuit, omnium, and Madison events

Katie Archibald is setting her sights on an unprecedented achievement at the Paris 2024 Olympics – clinching three gold medals, an accomplishment yet to be attained by any British woman. Her aspirations are focused on triumphing in the team pursuit, omnium, and Madison events. Should she achieve this historic feat, she will join the ranks of only Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny, and 1908 swimmer Henry Taylor, who have secured three gold medals at a single Olympic Games.
Katie Archibald is fully committed to her historic quest for triple Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Games. The track cycling star had a challenging experience at the home World Championships in Glasgow, where she secured gold in the team pursuit but placed eighth in the omnium.
Nevertheless, the 29-year-old remains resolute in her plan to add the Madison event to her Paris schedule, aiming to become the first British woman to claim three titles at a single Olympics.
Reflecting on her Olympic aspirations, Archibald shared, "I'm still incredibly ambitious with [the Olympics]. There were moments during the World Championships where I just wanted to get in the bin, so maybe it's daft to feel so clear-headed. Now I've got 12 months stretching out in front of me, I think 'why can't I fix it?' I'm sure I can fix it." Her goal over the past three years has been to excel in these three events at the Olympic Games, a goal she acknowledges is far from simple or easy. The success of the team has provided her with confidence, knowing that she has ample support and opportunities to achieve something remarkable.
In the realm of Team GB, only Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny, and 1908 swimmer Henry Taylor have secured three gold medals in a single Olympics. Archibald's teammate Jason Kenny's wife, Laura Kenny, who welcomed her second child in July, previously attempted the same arduous triple that Archibald aims for in Tokyo. Jason Kenny achieved Madison gold and team pursuit silver alongside Archibald but faced challenges in the omnium. British Cycling authorities believe it could be challenging for Kenny to make a comeback for the Olympics post-childbirth.
Archibald expresses excitement at the prospect of Laura Kenny's return to the team. Recognizing her vital role in the squad's culture since 2010, Archibald values her experience and believes that Laura's perspective can provide valuable insights. Laura's advice and support during a challenging week in Glasgow were particularly significant for Archibald.
The British women's team pursuit team's dominance in Glasgow positions them favorably for Olympic success. Archibald, who could secure a third consecutive gold medal in the team pursuit, holds the event close to her heart. She regards the team pursuit as the cornerstone of her career, an event that propelled her into the elite echelon of the sport. The results underscore the dedication of her training and the bond she shares with her teammates.
