Seye Ogunlewe of Lagos was second in 10.11sec, while Alaba Akintola of Edo State was third in 10.12sec.

Itsekiri on the sidelines of winning the coveted prize said it had been his dream to win the 100m dash.

"I prepared myself for this race and I am so happy I won," Itsekiri said after the race.

Former African Champion, Seun Ogunkoya, and officials of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) celebrated Itsekiri's feat in Benin City.

"It is a good race for Itsekiri and there is still room for improvement. Nigerians should watch out for him in Budapest," Ogunkoya stated.

World Championships Silver Medalist, Ese Brume was third in the 100m final in 11.52sec.
