Indonesia's World Beach Games Championships canceled due to government failure, disappointing ANOC

The World Beach Games Championships, scheduled to be held in Indonesia, were canceled after the government failed to transfer the necessary funds to the organizers at the last minute.
The Association of National Olympic Committee (ANOC), which organizes the event, expressed disappointment with Indonesia's decision and stated that there was no indication of a cancellation until the final moments. As a result, there was insufficient time to relocate the championship to another country.
The cancellation affected 1,600 athletes from 130 countries who were set to participate in various beach sports.
The World Beach Games Championships, although not part of Olympic sports, are conducted under Olympic auspices. The inaugural event took place in 2019 in Doha, Qatar, with Israeli athletes participating. In the canceled championship, the Israeli 3x3 beach basketball team was scheduled to compete. Indonesia had been granted the hosting rights under the condition that all member states could participate.
However, reports emerged that the Indonesian government declared its refusal to allow Israeli participants, leading to the cancellation. It is worth noting that Indonesia had previously lost the opportunity to host the World Cup due to its refusal to admit the Israeli national team into the country, resulting in the relocation of the tournament to Argentina.
The Israeli Olympic Committee expressed its disappointment with the situation but commended the Olympic Movement for upholding Olympic values and ensuring equal competition rights.
Despite the cancellation of the Beach Games Championships for economic reasons, the committee highlighted the importance of preserving the status and inclusion of the Israeli delegation in international sporting events.
