India has declared its interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai, Modi expressed India's determination to make every effort to secure this prestigious event.
While India has never hosted the Olympics, it successfully organized the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Modi referred to hosting the Games as a long-standing dream for India and expressed confidence in receiving support from the IOC. He also mentioned India's intention to bid for the Youth Olympics in 2029 and emphasized the significance of sports in winning hearts, not just medals.
Mexico and Indonesia have officially expressed their interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics, and in September, Poland's President Andrzej Duda also indicated his country's aspiration to host the event. Poland has never hosted either the Summer or Winter Olympics. Notably, Paris is set to host the 2024 Olympics, Los Angeles will host the Games in 2028, and Brisbane is preparing for the 2032 edition.
