The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Honorable Daniel Igali, has applauded the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for hosting the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Training Programme for coaches, officials, and wrestlers.
The NWF President, alongside NWF Vice President Chris Amkpila and Secretary General of the Federation Oluwasegun Bode Ademisoro, held a solidarity meeting with the CISM Wrestling Sports Committee President, Col. Naser Hassani, and the Iranian delegation. They commended the strong relationship between the two nations.
Igali noted that Iran had supported his ambition to become a member of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Bureau, serving for a period of six years.
"I want to appreciate the relationship we have with Iran. You supported my ambition to be a member of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Bureau for a period of six years."
"Also, on behalf of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, I want to extend our admiration and gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff for approving this training and re-emphasize the need for the Nigerian Armed Forces to recruit younger individuals and provide them with the necessary training."
Igali also praised the achievements of Hannah Reuben in the military, who has become an Olympian, World Military Gold Medalist, Commonwealth/African Champion, and multiple National Champion, among other accolades.
Honorable Igali emphasized the need for identified athletes to be given time off to train and compete, as the rigorous training sessions last about six hours per day, citing the example of Hannah Reuben, who excelled when given such opportunities.
Igali, who acknowledged Iran as a powerhouse in wrestling, appealed to the Iranian delegates to connect with the National Federations and not limit their developmental plans to the military alone.
The NWF President pledged the Nigeria Wrestling Federation's full support to the Nigerian Military in hosting the World Military Beach Wrestling Championship in 2026.
The high point of the meeting at the Armed Forces Officers' Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, was the exchange of souvenirs.
Meanwhile, the week-long International Military Sports Council (CISM) Wrestling Training Programme concluded on Tuesday in Abuja.
