Farida Khalil Shines at UIPM U19 Pentathlon Championships, Setting the Stage for Finals

Posted : 26 September 2024

The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U19 World Championships took a thrilling turn today in Druskininkai (LTU), featuring 52 competitors in the Women's Individual Qualification. With only the top 18 performers from two qualification groups earning a spot in Saturday's Women's Final, the stakes were high, and the next generation of pentathletes rose to the occasion, breaking several world records.

Egypt's Farida Khalil, a standout at just 13 years old, dominated Qualification Group A. Fresh off her victory in the U17 world title two weeks ago and a Women’s Relay gold earlier in the week, Khalil began her individual campaign impressively, accumulating 1,395 points—over 50 points ahead of her nearest competitor and the highest score of the day. Following her were Yerim Kim from Korea, Alia Enayet from Egypt, and Zoe Spokes from Great Britain, all vying closely for the top spots.

In the second qualification group, records continued to fall, highlighted by Alexandra Fernandes of Czechia, who set a new Obstacle record with a time of 00:27.62. Shortly after, Japan's Wakana Uchiyama made waves by breaking the U19 Swimming record with an impressive time of 02:09.01. Both athletes advanced safely to the final, with Hungary's Emma Meszaros finishing at the top of Group B, followed closely by Italy's Annachiara Allara and France's Coline Flavin, who had previously won a Mixed Relay gold at last year’s championships.

The UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U19 World Championships will continue from September 24-29, with Men’s Qualification scheduled for Thursday, September 26. The excitement will culminate on Saturday with both Individual Finals, followed by the Mixed Relay event that will conclude the competition on Sunday, September 29.
