EWF: EOC hosts Youth Olympic Festival, Small States Games, European Games

Posted : 24 July 2023
The European Olympic Committees (EOC) is headquartered in Rome, Italy, and comprises National Olympic Committees from across Europe. One of its primary responsibilities is organizing three major multi-sport events: the European Youth Olympic Festival, the Games of the Small States of Europe, and the European Games.

The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) is a biannual sports competition, with both summer and winter editions. The summer EYOF debuted in Brussels in 1991, while the winter edition commenced two years later in Aosta.

This year, the summer EYOF will be hosted in Maribor, Slovenia, from July 23 to July 29. The event will feature 12 sports branches and 13 sports disciplines, with athletes representing 48 countries.

For the first time in the Summer EYOF, weightlifting is included as a demonstration activity. Sixteen participants from seven countries, including Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia, Serbia, Malta, and Slovenia, will compete.

The demonstration tournament will feature multinational teams, with a girl and a boy from different nations competing together. This weightlifting showcase will take place on July 24, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. on Maribor's Main Square, aiming to introduce weightlifting to other EOC activities.

The European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) expresses gratitude to the EOC and the local organizing committee in Maribor for providing the platform to showcase the achievements of young European athletes to the broader sports community.

Best wishes are extended to all participants, and the hope is that weightlifting will soon be permanently included in the EOC program.
