As the countdown to the 4th MoC Grand Prix begins, the competition, which will be held on Friday, May 31st, and Saturday, June 1st, is set to witness historic participation from athletes from Europe and Asia, as entries have poured in from all over the world ahead of the event, which is poised to be the major Olympic qualifying event in Nigeria thus far in 2024.
With Nigeria’s Olympic Trials fast approaching (June 16th to 18th) and the African Championships in Cameroon (June 21st to 26th), top athletes from within and outside Nigeria are expected to descend upon Lagos in a bid for Olympic qualifying marks and ranking points leading up to the continental showpiece and the National Olympic Trials.
Interest for the 4th MoC Grand Prix was received from over 10 countries globally, and athletes from Iran and Turkey are expected to join their Nigerian and African counterparts in attending the event taking place at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos.
More than 300 athletes have registered for the competition, with the 2024 edition marking the first time MoC’s flagship competition will join the World Athletics Continental Tour as a ‘Challenger’ Event, continuing a record-breaking year for Athletics in Nigeria, which has already seen another series of MoC Competitions, MTN CHAMPS, bring the World Athletics Continental Tour to Nigeria for the first time in 2024 after the global series first launched in 2020!
List of Confirmed Athletes for the 4th MoC Grand Prix:
The main event will take place on Saturday, June 1st, featuring 20 track and field events across sprints, hurdles, middle distances, and jumps, while the six throwing events will take place on Friday, May 31st.
The organizers have stated that only athletes on this list will be on the start list for the respective events.
The start lists for the competition will be made available by Thursday, May 30th.
