US sprinter Erriyon Knighton has been cleared to compete in the upcoming US Olympic track and field trials despite testing positive for the banned steroid trenbolone earlier this year. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) revealed that an independent arbitrator ruled the positive test was a result of consuming contaminated meat, categorizing it as a "no fault" violation. This decision means Knighton will not face a suspension.
Knighton, who secured silver in the 200m at the 2023 World Championships and bronze in the same event in 2022, underwent hearings involving USADA and other witnesses on June 14 and 16. USADA CEO Travis Tygart emphasized adherence to regulatory protocols and expressed satisfaction that justice was served transparently as required by the rules.
Trenbolone, identified as a growth promoter in livestock, was traced back to potentially contaminated beef consumed by Knighton, according to the arbitrator's findings. The suspension imposed on April 12, 2024, has been lifted, allowing Knighton to participate in the US Olympic trials beginning Friday in Eugene, Oregon.
