Elaine Thompson-Herah parts ways with coach ahead of Paris 2024 defense

Five-time Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has severed ties with her coach, Shanikie Osbourne, just eight months before her attempt to defend her sprint titles at Paris 2024. According to Thompson-Herah's management team, the 31-year-old ended the coaching partnership due to the "extremely excessive" terms sought by Osbourne.
The Jamaican sprinter achieved remarkable success, securing gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m at Tokyo 2020, following her victories in the same events at Rio 2016. Despite being the second-fastest woman in history over 100m, Thompson-Herah faced challenges in the recently concluded season, missing qualification for the World Championships in Budapest due to injuries.
In a statement, Thompson-Herah's management team expressed that the decision to seek another coach was made collectively. With an eye on the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the sprinter is fully committed to her preparations for the season and the defense of her Olympic titles.
While Thompson-Herah has been a dominant force in women's sprinting at the last two Olympic Games, her injury struggles during the recent season impacted her performance, leading to a non-qualification for the World Championships. Despite this setback, her focus remains resolute as she gears up for the challenges ahead.
Having clinched gold in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics with a personal best of 10.54 seconds, Thompson-Herah is just behind the legendary Florence Griffith-Joyner, who holds the record with a time of 10.49 seconds set in 1988. As the sprinter navigates this coaching transition, the anticipation for her performance and defense of Olympic titles in Paris adds to the intrigue surrounding her journey in the world of athletics.
