Eilish Mccolgan Breaks Record, Surpasses Paula Radcliffe's 2002 Best Ever
Posted : 05 April 2023
Eilish McColgan broke a new British 10,000m record in California. Paula Radcliffe's mark of 30:01.09 from Munich in 2002 was beaten by the 32-year-old Scot, who finished in 30 minutes, 00.86 seconds in her first track event of the year.
McColgan decided last-minute to compete in the competition after training at altitude in Colorado.
McColgan comments: "Two years ago, I ran a big PB [personal best] here so it's nice to be back with the crowds. I knew I was in really good shape but to have it all come together on the day doesn't always happen."
McColgan, who will run her first marathon on April 23 despite having some knee issues, currently owns the British records for the 5,000m and 10,000-m runs, as well as the 5km, 10km, and half-marathon in road races.
