The Nigerian weightlifting duo of Rafiatu Folashade Lawal and Adijat Adenike Olarinoye will on Monday evening begin Nigeria's hunt for gold and silver medals when they compete in the 59 kg women's category at the ongoing 2024 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Egypt.
Both lifters won three gold and three silver medals, respectively, during the 2023 edition in Tunisia in May.
The championship, which also serves as Paris 2024 qualifiers, began yesterday with an opening ceremony. Lawal and Adenike will compete by 4 p.m. Nigerian time.
It will be recalled that both lifters have been at their prime in weightlifting for Nigeria, having participated in the 2020 Olympics and Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
