Egan Bernal named to INEOS Grenadiers 2023 squad

INEOS Grenadiers have officially announced that Egan Bernal, the 2019 Tour de France champion, will be making his return to their squad for his first Grand Tour since his severe injury in 2022. Bernal has not competed in a Grand Tour since the 2021 Vuelta a España but has made a remarkable recovery and is now part of an intriguing INEOS lineup.
 
Although Bernal is back, the nominal General Classification contenders for the team are rising stars Tom Pidcock from Britain and Carlos Rodriguez from Spain. However, it is not expected that either of them will seriously contend for the yellow jersey at this early stage of their careers.
 
The rest of the INEOS Grenadiers team consists of experienced riders such as Jonathan Castroviejo, Omar Fraile, Michael Kwiatkowski, and Dani Martinez. Another notable addition to the team is Ben Turner, who will be making his debut in the Tour.
 
Rod Ellingworth, Deputy Team Principal, expressed his excitement about the team's selection, acknowledging the challenging route of the Grand Tour and the demands of the race, including factors like heat and altitude.
