Ebonyi Marathon organizes training program for Technical crew

Posted : 18 August 2024

In preparation for the upcoming 1st Ebonyi Half International Marathon, the Ebonyi State Ministry of Youth Development, in collaboration with Fairplay International, hosted a one-day intensive training program for its technical crew and officials in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The participants were drawn from the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, as well as various youth groups, including students.

The "train-the-trainers" program, approved by the state government, aimed to equip participants with the latest trends in marathon racing.

The capacity-building session was overseen by Richard Ugo-Idike, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in Ebonyi State.

In his remarks, Ugo-Idike praised Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Governor of Ebonyi State, for his support of youth and sports development and for approving Fairplay International to organize the 1st Ebonyi International Marathon in the South East.

During his speech, the Commissioner encouraged participants to seize this golden opportunity provided by the governor to enhance their sporting skills.

Jacob Onu, the head of Fairplay International and the race organizer, also expressed his gratitude to the governor for his commitment to hosting the marathon in the state.

He urged participants to pay close attention during the training, as officials will enforce strict adherence to the rules during the event.

Henry Amike, the technical director of the race, assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a successful event, including medical services, road safety, welfare, and security for the athletes.

Amike added that over 5,000 athletes from Nigeria and 50 international participants are expected to compete in the marathon and encouraged those who have not yet registered to do so.

The training program saw the participation of over 150 individuals.
