Veteran long-distance runner Joy Ebiye once again outpaced about 10,000 runners to emerge as the winner of the 9th Lagos Women Run for the third time and second consecutive win.
The 9th edition, widely attended by athletes from across Nigeria and Africa, kicked off at 7:00 a.m. at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and finished at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, following a route through Lagos Island and parts of Victoria Island before ending at the stadium.

Ebiye, an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and now a serial winner, recorded a time of 39:35:21 to win the 10km race, compared to the time of 33:41:4 she posted in 2023.
Ebiye, a native of Okitipupa in Ondo State, was also the winner in 2021.
Lizine Nguetsa from Cameroon came second with a time of 40:02:54, while Charity Agofure took third place after posting a time of 40:09:23.
In the Veteran Category, Janet Dung won with a time of 47:45, while Katrine Darare from Latvia came second with a time of 52:56, and Otonye Iworima took third place with a time of 64:50.
The Director General (D-G) of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, commended the runners for their endurance in participating in the 10km race.
"Everybody knows that we have the Lagos City Marathon, which is a mixed race, but this one is dedicated to strong, inspirational, and important women in Lagos State coming together to run.
"This women's marathon goes beyond running; it promotes unity and peace and showcases the energy and spirit of Lagos State.
"It is a run intended to foster community bonding, create fun, and encourage growth for those who are ready to impact society in a positive way. That is why we are fully behind the race.
"We have people from different areas of development in society coming together to run in an atmosphere of peace and unity," he said.
Fatodu added: "There’s a lot of drive in terms of promoting fitness and everything related to sport. We are also moving into the area of sports entertainment.
"While people are running, they are also having fun and staying excited," he said.
NAN reports that Ebiye, the winner of the 10km race, received a cash prize of N1.5 million and other prizes, while Nguetsa, in second place, received N1 million, and Agofure, in third place, received N500,000.
In the Veteran Category, 46-year-old Dung from Plateau State received a cash prize of N300,000, Latvian Darare received N200,000 for second place, and Iworima received N100,000 for third place.
