Abdi Nageeye, the Dutch runner and reigning Olympic silver medallist, claimed victory in the Rotterdam marathon on Sunday, surpassing his own national record by 11 seconds with a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 45 seconds.
The Somalia-born Nageeye's impressive performance secured him the win, finishing just five seconds ahead of Ethiopian Amedework Walelegn, with Birhanu Legese, also from Ethiopia, securing the third spot on the podium.
In the women's race, Ethiopia's Ashete Bekere emerged victorious with a winning time of 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 30 seconds, securing her position ahead of the Kenyan duo of Viola Kibiwot and Selly Chepyego Kaptich. Bekere's remarkable performance showcased her dominance in the event, solidifying her place as one of the elite athletes in the marathon circuit.
