Durbanites can anticipate another exhilarating road race following the conclusion of the Comrades Marathon – the Durban SPAR Women’s Challenge, scheduled to commence and conclude at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium outer fields on Sunday morning.
Returning to its vibrant pre-Covid atmosphere, the event features the Durban SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge and a 5km Fun Run, expected to draw thousands of participants eager for fitness and enjoyment.
While the majority join for the thrill and camaraderie, the elite runners are set for a competitive showdown, vying for top positions and crucial SPAR Grand Prix points. This 10km race is a pivotal event in the prestigious SPAR Grand Prix series, attracting top athletes from South Africa and across Africa, including notable contenders like Glenrose Xaba and defending champion Tadu Nare.
The race route, meticulously crafted for both challenge and spectacle, spans a largely flat terrain with strategic elevations that promise to keep athletes engaged. Starting from Masabalala Yengwa Avenue, the course progresses through Athlone Drive and along Durban's scenic Promenade, offering stunning views of the bay and ending triumphantly at Kings Park Stadium outer fields.
Additionally, participants have the chance to win a Proton X50 SUV in a lucky draw, highlighting the event's allure and rewards beyond the competitive realm.
