Duplantis Falls Short of World Record Attempt, Wins Pole Vault in Sweden

Posted : 14 March 2025

Armand Duplantis fell short of breaking his own pole vault world record in front of his home crowd in Sweden, failing three times at an ambitious height of 6.28m. The Olympic and world champion, who set a record of 6.27m just two weeks ago in France, had to settle for victory with a clearance of 6.05m.

Despite his disappointment, the 25-year-old remained positive, describing the competition as exhilarating and comparing it to an Olympic final.

Duplantis began his campaign by clearing 5.65m before effortlessly surpassing 5.90m and 6m. He was the only competitor to succeed at 6.05m before making three valiant attempts at 6.28m.

The energetic home crowd and encouragement from fellow athletes were not enough to push him past his own historic mark, though he remains focused on his ultimate goal of reaching 6.30m this season.

His next opportunity to inch closer to that milestone will come at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, later in March. Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, fresh off his European indoor title, secured second place with a 6m jump, while American Sam Kendricks finished third with a mark of 5.90m.
