Nigerian track and field sprinter, Divine Oduduru, faced disciplinary action as the World Athletics' Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) imposed a significant six-year ban for a doping violation on Thursday.
The disciplinary measure comes following an investigation by the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal in response to allegations of potential Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) involving AIU.
Although Oduduru did not test positive for any banned substances, he was found guilty of both possession (Rule 2.6 of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules; ADR) and/or use or attempted use of multiple Prohibited Substances (Rule 2.2 ADR).
The allegations against him stemmed from a WhatsApp message exchange between Oduduru's compatriot, Blessing Okagbare, and her supplier, Eric Lira, where the term "Divine" and "we" were mentioned.
The Athletics Integrity Unit combined these violations as one single first violation, leading to a substantial period of ineligibility for Oduduru, accompanied by disqualification of his results and a financial penalty.
