Demi Vollering from SD Worx secured a sensational overall victory at the Tour de France Femmes with a remarkable performance in the race-concluding individual time trial.
The 22.6km time trial around Pau proved to be a dream day for SD Worx as Vollering finished just 10 seconds behind her teammate Marlen Reusser, securing a one-two finish for the team. Meanwhile, Lotte Kopecky's strong performance saw her surge into second place in the general classification.
Throughout the Tour de France Femmes, SD Worx demonstrated dominance, claiming the yellow jersey on the first day with a stage win from Kopecky. Despite facing adversity, including a penalty and the removal of their sports director, the team put on an impressive performance and won three stages.
The defining moment came when Vollering's brilliant victory on the Col du Tourmalet gave her a 1 minute and 50-second lead over Kasia Niewiadoma in the general classification. The final-day time trial was the last hurdle between Vollering and the top spot on the podium.
With Reusser taking the stage win, Vollering secured the overall victory, marking a seismic moment for women's cycling. Defending champion Annemiek van Vleuten missed out on the podium and finished in 14th place on the stage.
The Tour de France Femmes showcased incredible performances from the riders, with Vollering making her mark as the deserving overall winner. The women's peloton will now shift its focus to the World Championships in Glasgow, where Vollering is expected to be a strong contender for the prestigious rainbow jersey.
