The 11th Chief of Naval Staff National Swimming Championship, in collaboration with the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAF), is currently underway in the oil-rich city of Port Harcourt.
The event, which has attracted top swimmers from across the country, is expected to run from Wednesday, January 31, to Sunday, February 4.
The President of the Federation, Chief Mrs. Chinoye Daphey Aliyu, says the competition will enable them to select the best swimmers for the All Africa and Olympic Games this year.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral E.I. Ogalla, represented by Navy Captain S.M.C. Umeh, believes that the championship will boost integration in this sector of sports and facilitate the discovery of fresh swimming talents in Nigeria.
The opening ceremony, according to the Secretary of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Mr. Joel O. Akinluwa, will be on Thursday, February 1, at the Swimming Section of the Alfred Diette Spiff Civic Center, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
