China's Chen Lijun secured the gold medal in the men's 67kg category at the IWF World Championships in Riyadh. Chen made all five of his lifts, totaling 333kg, and declined his final attempt. In contrast, none of the other lifters managed to make more than three of their six attempts, with a total of 40 red lights compared to 20 white lights among them.
Indonesia's Eko Yuli Irawan finished second with a total of 321kg, coming from the B Group. Gor Sahakyan from Armenia took the third spot with a total of 312kg.
Defending world champion Francisco Mosquera from Colombia ended up fourth, posting a total of 311kg. He secured silver in the clean and jerk.
Kuo Hsing-Chun from Chinese Taipei dominated the women's 55kg C Group, going six-for-six with a total of 231kg. Her performance was particularly impressive considering her recent injury troubles, and she is set to compete at the Asian Games.
Nigerian lifter Rafiatu Lawal recorded a personal best of 225kg, narrowly missing out on the top 10 in qualification. Her compatriot, Adijat Olarinoye, also competed in the C Group and achieved a career-best total of 215kg.
Venezuelan lifter Anyelin Venegas lifted 219kg despite missing three attempts, a total that would have placed her ninth in qualification.
These performances added excitement to the IWF World Championships, with more sessions yet to come and potential changes in rankings after the event concludes.
