Mark Cavendish underwent surgery on his collarbone, which resulted in his withdrawal from this year's Tour de France.
The British sprinter's unfortunate crash occurred during Stage 8, causing a fracture in his collarbone and dashing his hopes of securing a record-breaking 35th Tour victory.
He currently shares the record of 34 wins with the esteemed Belgian cyclist, Eddy Merckx.
Following the completion of his surgery on Wednesday, Cavendish confirmed that he would be out of action for "several weeks." He also conveyed his encouragement to his Astana-Qazaqstan teammates, whom he has been cheering for throughout the race and will continue to support until they reach Paris.
Cavendish thanked Professor Funk, his trusted medical professional, for his exceptional care and expressed his eagerness to embark on the rehabilitation process. He is determined to return to racing and aims to participate in his 15th Tour de France in 2024, where he hopes to secure his elusive 35th stage victory.

Ultimately, the decision lies with Cavendish, who possesses the same unwavering determination and mindset to accomplish his ultimate goal.
