Calli Thackery delivered a stunning performance in her marathon debut, clinching victory at the McKirdy Micro Marathon in New York while clocking the joint second-fastest marathon time ever recorded by a British woman.
The 30-year-old Thackery crossed the finish line in an impressive time of two hours, 22 minutes, and 17 seconds, putting her on par with Charlotte Purdue and trailing only the legendary Paula Radcliffe in the all-time rankings.
Thackery's remarkable achievement also places her comfortably within the Olympic qualifying standard of 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 50 seconds, marking her as a formidable contender for future international competitions. The runner-up in the women's race was American Savannah Berry, followed by her compatriot Makenna Myler, making it a remarkable day for the United States.
Among European athletes making their debut, Thackery's time is the third-fastest, trailing only Radcliffe and Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands. Paula Radcliffe holds the British record with a stunning time of 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 25 seconds, established during the 2003 London Marathon.
This victory is the latest highlight in Thackery's remarkable career. In September, she secured the first place in The Big Half half-marathon in London, and earlier this month, she claimed a seventh-place finish in the half-marathon at the World Road Running Championships in Latvia.
In the men's competition, Tsegay Tuemay from Eritrea secured victory with a time of 2 hours and 11 minutes, followed by Tiidrek Nurme from Estonia in second place and American Jonas Hampton in third.
