British fans have already secured half a million tickets for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, making them the second-largest group of ticket buyers after France, according to organizers.
Paris 2024 chief executive Ettiene Thobois expressed excitement about the substantial British interest, speculating that it could be fueled by expectations of a strong Team GB performance, reminiscent of the inspiring 2012 London Games. Thobois assured that unprecedented security measures would be implemented amid heightened concerns over safety.
Addressing concerns raised by World Athletics president Lord Sebastian Coe about potentially exorbitant external ticket prices, Thobois defended the pricing strategy, noting that more than 90% of tickets have already been sold, and the majority were reasonably priced.
He highlighted the success of offering over one million tickets at 24 euros and more than four million tickets priced at 50 euros or less. Thobois emphasized that ticket sales for athletics, a sport dear to Lord Coe, are on track for full stadiums.
In response to the elevated security threat level in France, particularly after recent incidents, Thobois acknowledged being on high alert, emphasizing the readiness of Paris 2024 to meet the challenge of hosting the Olympics and Paralympics.
Despite more than two million unsold tickets for the football tournament, Thobois expressed confidence in the overall ticketing strategy and the success of the pricing approach, ensuring a fantastic turnout for the upcoming Olympic events.
