Keely Hodgkinson defended her 800m title and Jazmin Sawyers won long jump gold at European Indoor Championships in Istanbul.
Hodgkinson, the Olympic and world silver medalist, who turned 21 on Friday finishes in one minute 58.66 seconds, two seconds ahead of Slovene Anita Horvat.
With a seven-meter jump, Sawyers won her first major championship. The 28-year-old's jump was a personal best and the greatest in the world, catapulting her into the lead.
After embracing Hodgkinson on the track in joy, she had to wait in anticipation for the news of her victory, but Italian silver medalist Larissa Iapichino’s final 6.97m jump could not halt the jubilant British athlete.
Hodgkinson has been unbeatable in 2023, breaking her own British record while winning three straight 800m races and setting a global indoor record for ladies in the 600m.
Hodgkinson, who was visibly moved, dedicated the victory to her former coach Joseph Galvin, who passed away earlier this week.
