British athletes Hodgkinson, Gadirova, Brown predicted to win gold at Paris 2024 Olympics

British athletes Keely Hodgkinson, Jessica Gadirova, and Sky Brown are being tipped to win gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with statisticians Gracenote predicting another strong medal haul for Team GB next summer.
Keely Hodgkinson, who won a surprising silver in the 800m at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, has since established herself as Britain's leading middle-distance star and is favored to perform well at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Jessica Gadirova, the floor title winner at the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships in Liverpool last year, is projected to triumph in that event again in Paris, along with her twin sister Jennifer in the team event.
Skateboarder Sky Brown, the youngest British Olympic medalist at just 14, became a world champion in February and is backed to achieve further success in the upcoming Games.
Gracenote's Virtual Medal Table (VMT) predicts Team GB to secure 62 medals in Paris, comprising 15 gold, 23 silver, and 24 bronze. This forecast comes close to their Tokyo tally of 64 medals.
Beth Shriever is expected to defend her BMX racing title, while Joe Choong is projected to retain his title in the modern pentathlon. Rowing is also expected to bounce back with eight medals, including five golds, to redeem their winless performance in Tokyo.
The United States is expected to lead the overall medal tally with 128 medals, followed by China (68) and France (63). While Team GB ranks fourth in the VMT, their number of projected gold medals compared to Italy (20 golds) could place them fifth in the official standings.
Adam Peaty's dominance in the 100m breaststroke is predicted to weaken, with the two-time champion potentially winning silver in Paris. BMX park rider Charlotte Worthington, despite her historic gold in Tokyo, is forecasted to win bronze.
Notably, some athletes, including Tom Pidcock and Max Whitlock, are absent from the VMT, with Pidcock focusing on defending his mountain bike title, and Whitlock being a three-time gymnastics champion. Laura Kenny, who recently gave birth to her second child, is also not included in the predictions.
A significant factor in the VMT is the absence of competitors from Russia and Belarus, who have been banned from international competition in most Olympic sports since February 2022. As a result, their potential performance cannot be accurately assessed at the moment.
