Ben Pattison climbed to second place on the British men's 800m all-time list during the penultimate Diamond League meeting in Monaco, trailing only Sebastian Coe. The 22-year-old world bronze medallist achieved a personal best time of 1:42.27, finishing fifth in a highly competitive race. This performance elevates him above Steve Cram and leaves Coe as the sole British athlete to have run the distance faster, with Coe's world record of 1:41.73 set in 1981.
In the women's 100m, Dina Asher-Smith secured third place with a time of 10.99 seconds, while her training partner Julien Alfred from St Lucia claimed victory in 10.85 seconds, edging out American Tamari Davis. In the women’s pole vault, Britain’s world indoor champion Molly Caudery finished third by clearing 4.83m, with Australia’s Nina Kennedy winning the event at 4.88m.
Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen delivered a remarkable performance in the men’s 1500m, setting a European record of 3:26.73 as he prepares for his Olympic title defense against world champion Josh Kerr. Neil Gourley finished fifth with a season's best of 3:30.65, while Elliot Giles placed 13th in 3:40.72.
Additionally, Australia’s Jessica Hull broke the women's world record in the seldom-run 2000m, clocking an impressive 5:19.70. Melissa Courtney-Bryant, who missed out on an Olympic spot, finished second with a British record of 5:26.08, and Hannah Nuttall took 14th in the women's 5000m with a time of 15:37.21. The final Diamond League event before the Paris 2024 Games is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, in London.
