Team Bayelsa has emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 National MTN CHAMPS/MOC/AFN Championship in Benin City, Edo State.
The victorious athletics team, following the conclusion of the National MTN CHAMPS/MOC/AFN Championship, presented the overall best team trophy to the Bayelsa State Director of Sports, Sir Braveman Wodi.
The team, led by the Vice Chairman of the Bayelsa State Athletics Association, Dr. Kolawole Oredipe, captain David Michael, coaches, and officials of the association, made the presentation at his office in Yenagoa.
In presenting the trophy, Dr. Oredipe stated that the achievement was a result of the hard work and dedication of both the athletes and coaches.
He expressed appreciation to the Director of Sports, Sir Wodi, and the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali, for their continued support and approvals, which ensured that the athletes participated in the event.
Dr. Oredipe, who is also the founder of SAMKAY Athletics Club, noted that the event served as good preparation for the athletes ahead of the Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo next month and the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in May.
In his response, the Director of Sports, Sir Braveman Wodi, who was elated, assured that the Sports Council and the ministry would continue to invest in athletics and the athletes to achieve set goals.
Sir Wodi commended Dr. Oredipe, who led the delegation to Benin, for his vision, dedication, and investment in athletics, which, he noted, is yielding positive results.
He encouraged the athletes not to rest on their laurels but to continue improving their performance and replicate their dominance at the National Sports Festival.
The Director of Sports also appreciated the coaching staff for working tirelessly and preparing the athletes for the MTN Champs, where they emerged as the overall best team.
